1915:
Wichita City Library, 220 S. Main. Built
in 1914 with a $75,000 gift from philanthropist Andrew Carnegie,
Wichita's old library served the city until the new facility
was built directly across the street in 1967. (Note the
city jail's guard tower in the above left photo.) The building
was later occupied by the Omnisphere science center, which
closed in 2001. It currently sits empty.
