1937: Hotel Eaton, Douglas & St. Francis. Another Wichita entry in the National Register of Historic Places, the former Carey House Hotel boasts iconic cultural status due to its associations with anti-liquor activist Carrie Nation and bohemian poet Allen Ginsberg. The former smashed up the hotel bar with an axe in 1900; the latter immortalized the building in his epic poem Wichita Vortex Sutra. Known today as Eaton Place, the grand structure serves as an apartment building.
