1950: Commodore Apartment Hotel, Broadway & Elm. This iconic Wichita building has dominated the North Broadway skyline for generations, its massive neon sign one of the oldest in town. Air conditioning has changed the nature of the hotel's relationship to the outside world; note that open windows and chairs on the shady lawn have been replaced by window air conditioners and pavement.
