1960:
Wichita Art Museum, 619 Stackman Drive.
Since 1934 the Wichita Art Museum has served the public
from this location between the Big and Little Arkansas rivers.
The modest original building, designed by Clarence Stein
and constructed with WPA funds, has been greatly expanded
upon over the decades. The sculpture in the above left photo,
"Tree" by Wichita artist David E. Bernard, was
commissioned by Wichita Campfire Girls for that group's
50th anniversary; today Tom Otterness' "Dreamers Awake"
stands on the museum's front lawn.
