1970:
Intersection of Broadway & Douglas. The
Buck's store and all other structures south of J.C. Penney's
(painted white in the above right photo) were razed to make
room for the massive new glass-and-block Fourth National
Bank (Bank IV) building. The bank was absorbed into a series
of larger banks in the 1990s; the building now houses Bank
of America, as well as offices for Westar Energy and other
companies.
